Divorce and Story Telling

As is usually the case, I want to offer you some food for thought. I say so often that it’s important that you not assume anything about anyone.

If you have been abused during your marriage…physically or emotionally, there are a few things I want to share with you.

You may have had a restraining order put in place. Whether this is the case or not, please be aware of a few things that might happen.

Quite a few of my clients have had these experiences:

  • Their spouses responded to the restraining orders by taking out restraining orders of their own in an effort to show everyone that they were afraid of their wives.
  • The abusive spouse called 911 and then told the authorities that his wife had threatened him with a knife. (It never happened and was proven in court.)
  • The abusive spouse told the children that their mother had attacked him.

It goes without saying that these occurrences may have been inflated in the telling. My purpose in sharing them is so that should similar events occur with you, you won’t be surprised.
