Many of you are sharing your stories with me about the fact that you are not receiving the alimony and or child support payments that are owed to you.
You are seeing that in many cases the system is failing you. Even though your divorce decree says one thing, the reality is very different.
The U.S. Census Bureau offers statistics that state that less than half of the parents who are supposed to get child support actually do.
The sad part of the scenario is that there are no statistics regarding alimony. Why? I’m not sure but I do know that many and almost most of the ex-husbands don’t honor what is required in the divorce decree.
The reality is that games are played constantly by the ex-spouse who owes the money. Assets are hidden and taxes are cheated on in order to avoid making payments. There are times when even more dirty tricks are played in an effort to get out of paying alimony.
Wages can be garnished in order to obtain child support but not so with alimony. Passports and driver’s licenses can be suspended because of nonpayment of child support but not so with alimony.
It is possible that judges can criminally charge the ex-husband who is not paying alimony and at times the offender can be arrested and required to pay fines.
My friends forewarned is forearmed. Please don’t assume that just because it is written that it will come true.
