Divorce: Destination Happiness

Seek and you will find happiness after your divorce. You just need to follow the right path.

I know this from personal experience because my sense of direction is pathetic. Therefore it isn’t surprising that I headed down a few paths that went in the wrong direction.

Maybe down deep I had a happiness GPS because it didn’t take a long time before I found the path that lead me in the right direction toward happiness.

As I searched for happiness after my own divorce…

  • I learned to recognize all that was good in my life.
  • I learned to ponder and appreciate each of those gifts.
  • I learned to grasp the fact that although my marriage failed, I wasn’t a failure.
  • I learned that I had to move past discontent, fear, loneliness and self-pity.
  • I learned to let go of feelings of animosity when it came to my ex-husband.
  • I learned that I needed to remember the things about him that made me love him in the first place.
  • I learned to forgive him for all that he had done to cause our family pain.
  • I learned to accept the fact that I made mistakes too.
  • I learned to forgive myself because all human beings make mistakes.
  • I learned that patience was difficult but made everything worth the wait.
  • I learned that I didn’t need to be in a relationship to feel whole.
  • I learned that I had done the best I knew how to do in raising  my children.
  • I learned that the road to happiness came with bumps.
  • I learned that I was in charge of how I handled the bumps.
  • I learned to avoid the paths that were filled with discontent, jealousy, hate and revenge.
  • I learned that I had to focus on being happy.
  • I learned that my happiness was intensified when I filled my days with love, kindness, generosity and forgiveness.

Life isn’t always easy but I learned that as long as I keep my faith and place honesty and integrity in the forefront, I will remain on the path that continually amplifies my happiness.

How about you? What have you learned?
