The last couple of posts have offered explanations about how to save money during the divorce process. One of the main problems for a woman facing divorce is that too often, emotions take over and it’s difficult to sift through what is important and what isn’t. We become so focused on fighting for what has been instead of understanding and accepting what will be.
Only you know if it possible to negotiate a divorce settlement without an attorney. Can you communicate with your spouse? Are you able to have a normal conversation with him? And do you believe what he tells you?
If you answered “no” to one or more of these questions, you will probably need an attorney’s help during the divorce process. If you answered “yes” to the above questions, you might be ahead in the divorce game. The reason is simple, attorneys cost money…a lot of money. If you can work through the settlement issues without an attorney you will save a great deal of money.
WARNING, WARNING,WARNING! If your husband says he isn’t using an attorney and suggests that you go through the process without an attorney, you need to be wary. Many times people will say they haven’t retained an attorney when the truth is that they have. They have the upper hand because they are being coached on the laws in your state and without having the same legal coaching, you might get duped or misled!
Just keep your eyes and ears open and try to keep your mouth shut so that you learn the facts and come to an understanding of what you are facing regarding your divorce.
