Should you throw in the towel with your current attorney and cut your losses?
This is a common subject during my coaching calls. Unethical divorce attorneys are vigilant in their attempts to strip vulnerable women of all of the money that they have.
Reasons why you should evaluate changing attorneys
- Your attorney does not return your calls or emails.
- Your attorney does not keep you informed.
- Your attorney charges you for inappropriate billable hours.
- Your attorney asks you to sign a Confession of Judgment.
- Your attorney tells you that he or she is overworked.
- Your attorney makes continued mistakes on documents.
- Your attorney isn’t “open” with you regarding dealings with your husband’s attorney.
- Your attorney’s actions make you question his or her loyalty to you.
Remember that you are vulnerable and that is to be expected as you face divorce. Your attorney should not prey upon that vulnerability and should not do anything to add to your anxiety.
Do remember that it is not prudent to be “penny wise and pound foolish.” An attorney who decreases your stress level is worth more than one who increases it!
