A Day in The Life of A Divorcing Woman

When divorce breaks families apart, everyone is hurt. It is especially heartbreaking when one spouse is still in love with the other.

What I see happening time and time again is that spouses who are still in love, experience more sorrow.  They go through the same stages of grief that that people experiencing death go through. Their days are filled with changing emotions that take control of their thoughts and actions.

It’s so important that women understand what is happening to them. They need to stop beating themselves up for reacting to divorce this way because this is very normal.

The Stages of Grief

  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Bargaining
  • Depression
  • Acceptance

The spouses who initiate the divorces may have gone through the same stages but at an earlier in time. By the time they file for divorce, they are often at the acceptance stage.

If you find that you do not have the ability to cope with day to day life, there is no shame in seeking psychological help. In fact, it’s often the best thing to do.

Have you experienced these stages?
