With what you know about marriage now, would you have done anything differently?
For me, the answer is an easy one. I wish I had taken longer to get to know the man I was going to marry. In my case, I had known him only about ten months before we got married. The reality was that I really didn’t know him at all.
I am not sorry that I married him because if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have the children I have. That said, he was not the right person for me to marry because we were cut out of two totally different molds.
- I valued people. He valued money.
- I followed the rules. He didn’t.
- I had a strong faith in God. He didn’t.
- I was a giver. He was a taker.
- I respected people. He looked down on them.
- I had a strong work ethic. He had a strong work ethic.
Wow. I knew if I kept going on long enough that I would find at least one similarity.
I’m not sure who originally said this, but I believe it to be true. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.
Lucky for me, I remember the past very well.
