Did you know that women, who go through the stress of a divorce and lead a life of stress even after the divorce, are at high risk of developing heart disease in their later life?
An article published in the Journal and the Family, stated that “…Researchers at the University of Texas found such women have a 60% higher risk of heart trouble as compared to women who have an ongoing marriage. Over a ten year period of the study, it was found more than a tenth of the study respondents developed cardiovascular disease. Almost all of the respondents who developed heart disease were women.
There appeared to be almost no physical effect of the divorce on the men interviewed and marital loss seemed to bring negligible changes in their risk level of developing heart trouble.
Researchers opine there are multiple reasons behind the increased risk including the emotional stress of a broken marriage, social and economic changes as a result of that break down as well as the necessity of having to move home and adjust with a lower income. All of these factors trigger major physical and mental issues in women and put the women at much higher risk of suffering cardiovascular disease.
