Are You Making These Mistakes?

These questions pertain to you or your spouse. The effect on the other is the same.

1. Do you show a lack of respect for your spouse?

Do you treat strangers better than you treat your spouse? Are you appreciative for the efforts of your spouse? Do you talk about your spouse positively or negatively?

2. Are you always right?

This is one of the most difficult things that a spouse must deal with because the person with the “know it all syndrome” closes the door to communication. Without communication that offers give and take on both sides, relationships are doomed. People who blame others for their actions and don’t own up to their mistakes shatter any possibility of an enduring relationship.

3. Are you dishonest with your spouse?

Lies and secrets cause a lack of trust between partners and distance them from each other.

4. Do you consistently avoid sex?

Even though statistics show that 20 million marriages are sexless, sex is an important part of a marriage. It helps the strength of the bond between the spouses.

5. Are you hurtful or disrespectful in things you say to your spouse?

If your spouse is hurt or feels disrespected by what you say even if you don’t think it is hurtful, it is hurting them. Therefore, it is hurtful.

6. Do you distance yourself from your spouse?

If you distance yourself from your spouse physically or emotionally, a meaningful relationship is not possible. Why? No communication or relationship can survive with a person who is not there.

Remember that it is not the mistakes we make but what we learn from those mistakes that makes the difference in a marriage.
