Woman thigh deep in snow

Have you ever seen the ad, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up?” Maybe it is true of the woman in the commercial who couldn’t  physically can’t get up but it sure isn’t true of a woman who has hit rock bottom emotionally.

Anyone can get back on track if she has the right mental attitude. It’s true. Guaranteed.

I realize that the weather has turned into summer and that winter pictures might not apply as far as season but they are sure appropriate at anytime because they exemplify attitude. We all can get caught in a quagmire of self doubt and trepidation during the divorce process. The key is to realize that you can and must use the right attitude and the right tools to get yourself back to being a functioning, productive and happy person.

There are a few steps that you can take to get yourself going in the right direction.

1. Every time you realize that a negative thought has come into your mind, try to replace it with a positive one. The more you do this, the easier it gets. You need to train yourself to think positively until it becomes a habit.

2.Make sure you educate yourself on your options.

3. Try to to get out into the sunshine as often as possible. You will be surprised at how much better you will feel.

4. Go for a walk or exercise in some way. Believe it or not, endorphins will be released in your brain which work as an anti-depressant.

5. Surround yourself with positive and supportive people. As much as possible, stay away from people who think negatively. They will pull you down and that’s the last thing you need. As sad is it is to say, you may need to avoid certain family members or friends.

6. Make sure you get enough sleep and eat properly. That means no binges of any kind. Eating too much or drinking too much will only add to your depression.

7. Help someone. Do something nice and do it for the right reason. Kindness should be offered as an end in and of itself.

Believe it or not, these seven  six little steps will help your mood and your ability to cope, survive and thrive!
