I recently saw an info graphic about how money played out in this election. It hit me that there are many similarities between elections and divorces. (This post has nothing to do with my political views or who won the election. This post is about some financial facts that can paint a picture about what happens with divorce.)
The process of running for president costs more than ever and so does the process of getting divorced.
Since the election has come to an end, many numbers are readily available. On the contrary, the costs of getting divorced are not updated often and there are many variables that must be included in the equation.
Even so, the facts regarding divorce are similar because the divorcing spouses and the presidential candidates have the best chances to win when they have money to spend.
Many statisticians are putting together reports about how much it costs to lose a presidential race and how much it costs to win.
2008
Barack Obama spent 730 million dollars to win.
John McCain spent 333 million dollars to lose.
2012
Barack Obama spent 852.9 million dollars to win.
Mitt Romney spent 752.3 million dollars to lose.
Think about it. How many millions can you afford to spend in an effort to win at divorce?
So what is the answer? The answer is that you need to spend smarter instead of spending more!
