Divorce: Be Patient with Your Children

One of the best pieces of advice that I received when I was going through the divorce process was, “Be patient. Don’t stoop to his level by alienating them from him. Then wait. At some point, they will understand what really happened.”

I’ll add a few other suggestions…

• P    Pay attention to them.
• A   Ask them about their feelings.
• T   Treat them with understanding.
• I    Insulate them from the divorce.
• E   Explain your reasons.
• N   Notice their pain.
• C   Communicate.
• E   Eliminate badmouthing their father.

Then wait. You may have to wait for quite a while but it will be well worth it! Guaranteed!
