Stay at home moms continue to be on the losing end of divorce and sadly, the number of stay at home moms who connect with me continues to grow.
These women have done all they possibly can to try and hold on to their marriages but now, they can’t hold on any longer. They are afraid of their financial futures but they are convinced that their marriages are over and they want out.
If you are one of the many women who is researching your options, please face some facts now! I don’t mean to be dramatic but time is of the essence if you want to survive the storm of divorce.
It is NEVER too soon for a stay at home mom to take precautions to save her financial future. If you are a stay at home mom, you can’t afford to bury your head in the sand. You must take action now!
What a stay at home mom must do now
- Put money someplace so that you will have access to a nest egg.
- Research jobs in your town or look into working from the home. There are many legitimate sites on the internet BUT beware of scams. Don’t let desperation cause you to be duped.
- Look into ways that you can improve your credit rating in the case that it is poor due to your marriage, the economy, loss of job, illness, etc.
- Look into the cost of health insurance for you and your children.
- Do not assume that everything will be okay. If you want everything to be okay, you must take action to make sure that you and your children will be okay.
- Do you own your car and your home? Are they in both of your names or only in your husband’s name? You need to make sure that if your name is not on either that you do something to get your name on one or both.
- If you don’t already have a credit card in your name, get one. Talk to your banker or check out a site like Cardaccept [affiliate] If you have one, look into increasing your credit limit in case you need it later.
- Begin to look into attorneys. Make some calls.
- Find and copy all important papers including bank statements, mortgage, car payments etc.
I know this is frightening to think about but it will be more frightening to lose everything because you were naive and believed that everything would work out. A stay at home mom must do what it takes in this economy to save her own financial future and the futures of her kids.
This is not a what if? This is a what is.
