They call it a mid life crisis in men and menopause in women! There are huge differences. Mid-life, for a man, is comprised of an increased self awareness and the desire to feel young, at any cost. He suddenly is attracted to the mirror instead of his wife. He can be easily caught, staring at his reflection, holding in his stomach and smiling. A woman, on the other hand, avoids the mirror at all costs.
The reason for the difference is simple. For a woman, mid-life is not a crisis, it’s a disaster. As the man’s mind focuses on how he can look young again, the woman’s mind can’t focus on much of anything. Her memory and ability to sleep at night are things of the past. One minute, she feels cool, calm and collected. The next minute, she is wringing out her soaking wet clothing because she is sweating to death.
She changes the thermostat in the car and house from air condition mode to heat mode, repeatedly. Nothing helps. Then to make matters worse, on a rare occasion, the mirror reaches out and grabs her glance. She becomes painfully aware of what the years and the children have done to her body. She sees that her reflection bears a strange resemblance to balloons in various degrees of inflation and deflation. She grimaces as she sees that parts her have blown up and other parts have celluliiecally shriveled.
