So many of you have written to me about the question of potentially changing attorneys midstream during the divorce process. “The devil you know might be better than the devil you don’t.” Then again, why deal with a devil when you might find an angel out there? I was lucky enough to have that happen to me but with an added dollar and a lot of stress.
Here are some questions for you:
1. Do you feel comfortable with your attorney?
2. Do you trust your attorney?
3. Has your attorney charged you according to your expectations?
4. Does your attorney talk down to you?
5. Do you feel prepared for court?
6. Is your attorney prepared for court hearings?
7. Does your attorney appear to be organized?
8. Does your attorney call you unnecessarily?
9. Does your attorney write unnecessary letters?
10. Does your attorney explain ways that can save you money?
Only you can answer these questions. You need to go with your gut. Don’t wait until your new attorney has to play catch up quickly. It will cost you more money and it will cause more stress.
