Well, now I think I have really seen it all! If any of you have any tales of two-faced people, I would love to hear them. You can email me at claudia at divorceforstayathomemoms.com or claudia at claudiabroome.com.
I may seem to be rambling a bit but without going into details my rant is pertinent to the happenings in my life in the last few days.
I never cease to be amazed by the actions of some people. While I don’t want to appear jaded, in some instances, I think maybe I have become jaded. What has happened in our society, to eradicate ethical behavior? Where has the moral standard of integrity and honesty gone? Why is there so much of an attitude among our youth of entitlement with little or no caring about the other guy? The Do unto others as they would do unto you, seems to have turned into Do unto others what you think you can get away with!
I think that part of the problem is our legal system and part of the problem is the parents. Kids who get in trouble, all too often get bailed out one way or another by their parents. Mom and Dad don’t want to face the fact that their son or daughter could possibly be wrong because it might reflect on them. Parents egos, in my opinion, get in the way of facing the facts. What lessons are they teaching their children when they not only allow dishonesty but actually support it by hiring attorneys to get them off?
I remember as a child, taking a tomato off of a neighbor’s vine and told my mother. She marched me over to the neighbor’s house and made me tell of my ”sin”and apologize for my actions. Then she made me work in the neighbor’s garden for weeks in reparation for my dishonorable conduct.
Guess what? I learned what ethical behavior meant and I found out what the consequences just might be if I broke the rules. My mom never cared about being popular. Right was right and wrong was wrong and she saw that it was her job as a mom, to teach and punish appropriately. I respected her and all that she stood for and I am grateful for learning at such a young age that “right is right and wrong is wrong and that’s all there is to it!
