Finances: When The Only Way Is Up

So many stay at home moms who are going through divorce have appalling financial issues. Too often, their funds are cut off during the process and they are unable to find jobs because they have young children. In addition, many are unable to find jobs in the current economy.

When you think that there is no way out of your current situation, try a different mindset. Become a believer in yourself. Trust me. It works.

Suggestions for improving your finances

  • If your electricity bill hasn’t been paid, call the company. Explain the situation and advise them if you have any health issues or if your children have health issues. You might be surprised at how helpful they can be.
  • Try to think of ways that you can earn money from the home. Be creative. You might be able to tutor children or babysit. Many mothers can’t afford to pay top dollar for sitters to come to their homes but if they could drop off their children for an hour or two at a less expensive rate, they might be thrilled. I suggest that you connect with people you know or ones who your family or friends suggest. Remember that safety is always an issue. If you write well, you might be able to freelance for a newspaper.
  • Have a yard sale. You probably have more things that you think might sell. Remember that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.
  • Connect with your church or synagogue and ask if they have any suggestions as to ways you might be able to earn some money.

As unbelievable as this may seem, I am confident that you will get through this.
