Why is it that this incredible woman is able to face problems and issues with honesty and doesn’t feel the need to talk out of both sides of her mouth, unlike some of the politicians that we know? She takes the bull by the horns and gets to the heart of situations, that are often heart wrenching. She doesn’t hide behind anyone else or behind the words. No comment, is not our Oprah.
Currently, as her South African school for disadvantaged girls is in the news, because of reported sexual abuse, Oprah cuts to the chase. When she became aware of the alleged incidents, she hired an independent investigation to find the facts. Upon uncovering the tragic realities, she owned up to the fact that, the buck always stops with me. Shortly thereafter, she was on a plane to South Africa to deal, face to face, with the conditions and the people involved.
Thankfully, Oprah is the person that she is and has the moral fiber to hit the problem head on and do something about it. Oprah was quoted as saying, as often is the case, child abuse, sexual abuse happens right in front of the family, right within the confines of people you know.
Here is a woman who suffered at the hands of child abusers herself, and has attempted to reduce potential child abuse crimes by increasing people’s awareness, among other things. What an example she is for these 152 young girls, not to mention others, all over the world. Watching a woman, who cares so deeply and shows just how much, with her actions. Oprah has taught a valuable lesson about the necessity to come forward with her words, It is my deepest hope that the accused is brought to justice and that this serves as a reminder that anytime a child has the courage to step forward, it is our duty as adults to listen and take immediate action.
Seeing her holding hands with her shaken students and hearing her positive words, this writer succumbed to emotion. Oprah stated that, It has shaken me to my core but at the core of me is a belief that all things happen for a reason no matter the devastation, and this too shall pass.
Ladies, please let’s all follow Oprah’s example and open our eyes to the possibility of child abuse and do what needs to be done to help our children!
