I feel the need to mention again, the effect of positive thinking and a positive way of approaching life and work and just days in general. People get an impression of who you are and what you are about with your written word, your facial expression and enthusiasm or lack there of and your body language. I receive emails from people who have screen names like the following and please note that these are my made up examples: Imsosad@ Iwillalwayshurt@ Whocares@ Imaloser@ Impoor@ Itsabadworld@ Theyhateme@ Illneverwin@ Poorme@ Imbroken@ Imawaste@ etc.
Now, you tell me what is the impression that you get when you read these? For me, I immediately feel sad for the people using names like that because I know only too well that until they act and think more positively, they won’t be able to get their heads above the water of downbeat, pessimistic and depressing days which will ultimately contribute to miserable, dismal, dreary and lonely lives.
So now, let’s say two people are applying for the same job.
Candidate #1 walks into the interview, hands her prospective boss her resume and sits down. She appears to have all of the credentials needed for the job, which include experience, education and knowledge of the work that is required. She seems a bit bored to the interviewer and does not appear to display any pride or pleasure about her abilities or the new job she is seeking. Her resume indicates that she would be a perfect fit for the position but her dour demeanor makes him question whether or not he should hire her.
Candidate #2 walks in and smiles, hands the potential employer her resume and sits down. As he is reading her resume, she tells him how excited she is to be applying for the job. She explains that she has always wanted to work for his company because of its’ wonderful reputation. He sees that she has some of the credentials needed for the job. She has the education and she has some experience. Clearly her resume doesn’t indicate that she is a perfect fit for the job BUT her enthusiasm, her cheerful attitude along with her desire to work for a company she respects, give her an edge. She smiles and tells him that she will work hard and he will be proud to have her as a member of his team if she is selected for the job.
Which of these two women do you think should be hired and why?
