Is Anyone Listening?

As promised, this is part of the email sent to me by the woman I met in the grocery store.

Dear Claudia,

Thank you for helping me put the bag of dog food in my cart. I was crying because my husband of 12 years has filed for divorce and has demanded that he keep custody of our Golden Retriever Blondie.

My heart is breaking because my marriage has failed but believe it or not, even more because he wants to crucify me by stealing my most prized possession, support system and the love of my life…my Blondie!

I just can’t imagine my life without her love. Please help me understand and do whatever is necessary to keep her.

Mary G

The good news is that case law is changing. Where pets used to be viewed as chattel— possessions or material objects — in courts now and little by little, they are being seen as members of families and their best interests are being considered.
