When selecting an attorney, pay close attention to the way that each attorney computes his or her billable hours.
If an attorney breaks down a billable hour into 15 minute increments, you need to be extremely cautious about the amount of your attorney’s time that you use.
A 15 minute increment means that any amount of time your attorney spends on a task taking less than 15 minutes, will be charged to you for the total 15 minute increment.
You must be vigilant in learning about the different aspects of the divorce process such as preparing interrogatories in order to understand ways that your legal fees can increase.
Ways To Save
1. If you can get an answer for a question from the secretary instead of your attorney, ask the secretary! You can ask her to question your attorney and then she can get back to you. $ Saved!
2. Save your questions until such time that you will use close to the fifteen minute increment for the conversation. $ Saved!
3. Do some of the work yourself. You can do many of the things that an attorney might charge you for if he or she does the work. $ Saved!
