Divorce: A Life’s Hurdle

Divorce is just another one of life’s hurdles that must be crossed. If you are facing a divorce, you can navigate past it as long as you understand the process and what needs to be done to get to the other side.

Those of us who ride horses and jump over fences understand how difficult it can be to navigate over a hurdle. No matter how impending the obstacle is, it is possible to get over it if we are riding an experienced and “honest” horse.

The rider needs to have reins to let the horse know that she is in charge and that the horse must pay attention to what the she wants him to do.

An “honest” horse is one who listens to what the rider requests but if the rider is confused or makes a mistake, an “honest” horse attempts to take care of her in order to get over the hurdle safely.

If both the horse and rider are competent and communicate well, they can work together and navigate across the hurdle successfully.

Sometimes things go wrong and then a competent trainer is needed to help the rider understand how to get the horse across the hurdle.

A problem occurs if the horse “takes the bit” and doesn’t pay attention to what the rider is communicating through the reins.

A riding coach can help the rider by explaining that the horse is going too fast, too slow, taking too many strides or leaving strides out as the hurdle is approached.

When the rider learns about the missteps that the horse is taking and how to correct them, the hurdle can be crossed. As the rider gains knowledge about the process of jumping an obstacle, stress is decreased and the possibility of success is increased.

Think of it this way:

The person getting a divorce is the rider. The horse is the attorney and the hurdle or obstacle is the divorce process.

If the person getting the divorce and the attorney communicate well and the attorney is experienced and “honest,” the divorce hurdle will be navigated over quickly and safely and there will be no issues and no need for a divorce coach.

On the other hand, if the attorney “takes the bit” and ignores the client’s wishes or takes advantage of the client’s inexperience, a divorce coach will help protect the rider or client by educating her.

A divorce coach has the ability to help a client understand the process, control legal fees and get over the hurdle of divorce with minimum stress and expense.
