Why Would You Want to Stay?

One of the things that  I hear so often from the women I coach is, “My life is over.”   They feel like they wasted their youth on their marriages. When they faced divorce, they felt like their lives ended. This is especially true of stay at home moms who gave up their careers to become stay at home moms. They have not been able to leave their pity parties.

I get that and relate to it however, when you decide to give yourself a pity party, you must also give yourself a curfew. You must move on when the time is up. After all, why would you want to stay?

Life is what you make it and if you see the beginning of each day as the beginning of your new life, your attitude will begin to change. I want to share with you a true story about a woman who understands and lives that concept.

Her name is Sensei Keiko Fukuda and she is 98 years old. She was just promoted to the 10th degree black belt in Judo, the highest level. Because of gender discrimination she was kept at the lower ranks of Judo for many years.

She is one of only three people in the world today to hold the 10th rank in Judo. The icing on the cake of her attitude is that she still teaches Judo three days a week. In the past only 16 people have ever earned the 10th degree black belt in the combat sport of Judo. She is the only woman to have accomplished this amazing feat.

When your spirits sink and you think you are too old to have a good life, think about Sensei Keiko Fukuda and what she accomplished with determination, a positive attitude, courage and hard work.

She is pretty impressive and you can be impressive too!
