Divorce: What comes to mind?

What picture comes to your mind when you hear the word “divorce?”

It’s strange how each of us hears a word and with each of us there is a different picture that comes to mind.

The first picture that comes into my mind is the car ride when I  found out that my ex husband had filed for divorce.

I was in the car and had just received a call from a friend who had one of my horses at her farm. She called to tell me that Molly was experiencing a bad colic and that she was taking her to the vet and that she would probably need surgery. I was very upset.

A couple of minutes later, I received a call from my ex husband saying that he had filed for divorce. In a state of shock, I was speechless as I heard him yelling, “Did you hear what I said? I filed for divorce!”

A few minutes later, I received a call from the veterinary hospital asking for $5,000.00 as a down payment on the colic surgery. My head was spinning as I told them that I couldn’t pay that and that if she couldn’t be helped that they should put her down.

By then the tears were flowing. A minute or so later my friend called and said that my mare had gotten caste in the trailer and that the vets had put her down. (She didn’t tell me that my Irish Thoroughbred Draft Cross mare had destroyed her trailer as she thrashed in pain on the way to the veterinarian hospital. Being the kind of friend she is, I didn’t find that out until just recently.)

So what picture comes to your mind when you hear the word “divorce?”
