Babies and Divorce

I read some interesting facts today. Nearly 75% of all divorces take place when the women leave the men. In addition, it appears that couples with a girl child are 5% more likely to divorce and that number increases with each additional girl child. So, a family with 3 girls is 10% more likely to divorce than a family with 3 boys.

Special needs children don’t come into play with these numbers.

Hmmm…very interesting.

In past years, the thought was that boys added more to a marriage than girls. Why is it that fewer men initiate divorce? Is it to stay home to raise the boys? Or is it that men are afraid of what will happen to the boys if they leave so they stay?

Or could the opposite be true? Could it be that more women divorce men when they have daughters? Could it be that women see daughters as more of a support system? Could it be that the women don’t see as much of a need for a husband if they have a daughter, since they fear less loneliness if they have a daughter. Hence the old saying, “A son is a son ’till he takes a wife but a daughter is a daughter all of her life.”

One other fact: Couples who are expecting a girl child are less likely to marry.

The statistics sure offer food for thought. There will be a gazillion spins on these facts for sure.

Do you have any thoughts?
